Gabriel Landeskog, captain of the Colorado Avalanche, is sidelined for “some weeks” due to an upper-body injury. This injury raises concerns about his participation in the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina in 2026.

Injury Details

Landeskog sustained the injury during the second period of a match against the Florida Panthers on Sunday. While driving toward the net, he lost his footing and collided with the goal. This left him unable to continue the game.

Coach’s Statement

Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar confirmed that Landeskog will miss several weeks. “I don’t know exactly how long he’ll be out,” Bednar stated. “We’ll see how he’s feeling, but he’s going to miss some time.” The team is scheduled for 14 games before the NHL Olympic break begins on February 5.

Season Performance

  • Landeskog has recorded 22 points this season, with seven goals and 15 assists in 41 games.
  • He was named to Team Sweden’s roster for the Winter Olympics on January 2.
  • This season marks his return after missing parts of three previous seasons due to knee injuries.

Olympic Considerations

The Olympics will be the first time NHL players compete since the 2014 Sochi Games. Team Sweden is set to play their opening match against Italy on February 11. Coach Bednar expressed hope for Landeskog’s speedy recovery, noting, “I know he’s been looking forward to it.”

International Achievements

At 33, Landeskog is a veteran of Sweden’s national teams. His accolades include:

  • Gold medals at the World Championship in 2013 and 2017.
  • A silver medal at the 2014 Olympic Games.
  • Participation in various international tournaments including the 2009 U-18 World Championship and the 2011 World Junior Championship.

As Landeskog recovers, his future in the upcoming Olympics remains uncertain. The Avalanche will continue to monitor his condition closely.
