The Justice Department has made a small release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, sharing only 12,285 files. This accounts for less than 1% of the over 2 million documents under review. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche updated a federal judge on the progress amid significant work still ahead.

Details of Document Release

In a court filing presented to Judge Paul Engelmayer of the Southern District of New York, the officials revealed that the released documents comprise about 125,575 pages. They indicated that the volume of material includes various formats such as papers, videos, photographs, and audio files.

Background and Deadlines

A law passed by Congress in November mandates the Justice Department to release all Epstein-related files by December 19, 2025. This legislative action received strong bipartisan support. Epstein, a convicted sex offender, was accused of extensive abuse of underage girls and died by suicide in 2019.

Ongoing Investigations

The files stem from two major FBI investigations conducted in Florida and New York over several decades. A memo from July 2025 indicated that over 300 gigabytes of data and physical evidence had been unearthed during the review process.

Resource Allocation

The Justice Department informed the court that substantial resources are being dedicated to the document review. Currently, more than 400 attorneys are involved in the meticulous process of ensuring the identities of victims are protected, as mandated by law.

  • 12,285 documents released (less than 1% of the total)
  • Over 2 million documents still under review
  • 125,575 pages in the released batch
  • 300+ gigabytes of data uncovered in investigations
  • Deadline for full release: December 19, 2025

The Justice Department aims to process and release information promptly, but the sheer volume of documents means they will provide updates and releases on a rolling basis. Efforts to expedite the review included requests for Florida prosecutors to volunteer during the holiday season for help with the redaction process.
