Washoe County School District (WCSD) has increased access to mental health resources for students, families, and staff. This initiative follows new funding from the City of Reno, enabling a partnership with Care Solace. The service aims to address barriers preventing individuals from seeking help.

Expanded Mental Health Support in Washoe County

Care Solace is a free service designed to quickly connect users with mental health providers and community support. It is now accessible districtwide for all affiliates of WCSD.

Dr. Paul LaMarca, WCSD’s Chief Student Supports Officer, stressed the importance of mental health for student success. He stated, “Care Solace removes many barriers families face when trying to find help.”

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve acknowledged the funding’s significance, noting, “This funding allows us to invest in meaningful, preventative mental health supports that strengthen families and protect young people.”

Funding and Investment Details

The expansion of Care Solace is funded by the City of Reno’s Opioid Recoveries Special Revenue Fund. This fund allocates settlement dollars toward prevention and treatment services. Recently, the Reno City Council approved $90,000 for Care Solace. This is part of an overall investment approaching $1 million in opioid remediation.
