AJ McCarron, the former All-American quarterback from Alabama, will play a crucial role for the Birmingham Stallions during the upcoming UFL Draft. Scheduled to kick off on March 27, the United Football League (UFL) is set to initiate a three-step draft process starting with quarterback selections this Friday.

UFL’s New Draft Structure

This year, the UFL has introduced significant changes. The league has eliminated the general-manager role for its eight teams, opting instead for a centralized scouting and talent-acquisition approach. This new system will be managed by the UFL Player Personnel Department.

McCarron, who took over as head coach for Birmingham in December, will be responsible for selecting quarterbacks. He follows Skip Holtz in this position and is eager to lead the Stallions.

Draft Process Overview

  • Friday: Quarterback selections will take place.
  • Saturday: Teams will choose up to three players from their allocated colleges.
  • Monday: Announcement of Friday’s quarterback picks and Saturday’s college selections.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: UFL Draft will occur in Arlington, Texas.

The UFL has not yet disclosed the specific college alliances for each team. Additionally, in preparation for the draft, each UFL team can reserve 12 players from its 2025 roster to maintain for the 2026 season.

Franchise Changes and Player Selection

  • The Columbus Aviators will now inherit the roster of the Michigan Panthers.
  • The Louisville Kings will take on the Memphis Showboats’ roster.
  • The Orlando Storm will acquire players from the San Antonio Brahmas.

The draft will feature players from the 2025 UFL rosters and free agents unattached to other leagues. A lottery will determine the draft order, using a snake-style selection system. This method allows teams to alternate their draft positions, adding a strategic layer to team-building.

Each UFL team is allowed to assemble a training camp roster of up to 64 players. The upcoming selections by McCarron and the team will be pivotal as they aim to strengthen the Stallions’ performance in the upcoming season.
