Toronto police reported the arrest of eight individuals and the laying of 29 charges during a protest held downtown on Saturday. This demonstration took place at Nathan Phillips Square, located at Queen Street West and Bay Street.

Details of the Protest and Counter-Protests

The rally, which began around 2 p.m., focused on opposing mass immigration. A significant number of participants gathered, prompting a counter-protest organized by Community Solidarity Toronto. This counter-protest aimed to combat hate in the city.

Prior to the anti-immigration rally, city Councillors Neethan Shan and Paula Fletcher teamed up with various organizations. This included the National Council of Canadian Muslims and the Urban Alliance on Race Relations, all coming together to denounce racism and xenophobia.

Toronto police were present to ensure public safety and maintain order. Despite these efforts, disturbances arose, leading to assaults on fellow participants and police officers. Chief Myron Demkiw expressed gratitude towards the officers involved, emphasizing that violence against police or anyone else is unacceptable.
