Regional 400,000 Euro Grant Supports Blue Tongue in Sheep and Goat Farming

The Abruzzo region has initiated a vital funding program aimed at supporting sheep and goat farmers affected by the blue tongue epidemic. This new initiative includes a financial assistance package totaling 400,000 euros, which will provide 300 euros for each livestock loss incurred.

Details of the Grant Program

The program is designed for agricultural businesses based in Abruzzo that have suffered livestock losses due to the “Blue Tongue Virus.” It is a response to the significant impact this disease has had on the regional livestock population. Farmers can apply for compensation starting January 13, 2025, until January 30, 2025.

Eligibility and Application Process

  • Farmers must have operations in Abruzzo.
  • Losses need to be certified by the local veterinary service of the ASL.
  • Applications can be submitted through the regional online portal.

Vice President of the Regional Government and Agriculture Minister, Emanuele Imprudente, emphasized the regional government’s commitment to supporting farmers during these challenging times. He stated that the assistance program reflects their dedication to mitigate the severe economic losses suffered by the agricultural sector.

Significance of the Grant

This funding is expected to aid not only in compensating for livestock deaths but also in ensuring the continuity of agricultural production in the region. The grant signifies the regional administration’s recognition of the agricultural sector’s importance to Abruzzo’s economy and the preservation of its rural landscapes.
