In 2020, Welling, along with his wife Jessica Rose Lee and their son Thomas, left Los Angeles. They relocated to a small town in northern California, purchasing a home for $4.5 million in 2019.

Welling expressed his frustrations about life in LA during the pandemic. He noted, “LA was wild at the time. There were no cars on the street, you couldn’t go anywhere.” With his first son beginning to crawl, he felt their small deck wasn’t sufficient for play. This led to their decision to seek a more spacious environment.

After a visit to family in northern California, Welling fell in love with the idea of ranch life. He enjoys the anonymity that comes with living in a small town, stating, “No one bothers you in a small town. Everyone’s famous in a small town.”
