Worc Studio Highlights Circular Stone Table at Mexico City Restaurant
Worc Studio has recently unveiled a remarkable project at Savvia, a new restaurant located in the heart of Mexico City. Nestled within the historic Humboldt building, this 153-square-meter (1,646-square-foot) establishment serves as a testament to communal dining and familial traditions.
Design Highlights of Savvia
The restaurant’s design emphasizes the act of sharing meals, which inspired Worc Studio’s creative direction. The studio, founded by Ricardo Martínez and Camila Ureña, has effectively utilized the building’s exposed concrete architecture to reinforce themes of connection and community.
A Space for Togetherness
At the center of the dining area is a striking circular stone table. This table, described as both sculptural and symbolic by the studio, acts as the core element around which the space is organized. It encourages interaction and storytelling among guests, embodying the spirit of gathering.
- Location: Centro Histórico, Mexico City
- Size: 153 square meters (1,646 square feet)
- Key Feature: Large circular stone table
Architectural Innovation
The architectural approach involved elevating the kitchen to the second floor. This unique decision maximizes the ground level for dining, promoting visibility and movement. The large opening to the street allows for the city’s dynamic atmosphere to permeate the dining experience, creating a balance between the exterior vibrancy and interior intimacy.
Material Selection and Atmosphere
The material choices are fundamental to the restaurant’s concept, evoking tactile and atmospheric qualities. Key materials include:
- Stone for vertical elements and the primary table
- Brass details for a refined touch
- Wood and stoneware to create a warm ambiance
Worc Studio aimed to blend reverence for the building’s history with a fresh transformation. The design choices made throughout the project were executed with precision to enhance the space’s inherent qualities.
Reflecting on the Project
The studio emphasized that their most impactful designs emerge when architecture feels seamless and intuitive. “Savvia reminds us that powerful design occurs when the space is intrinsically linked to its purpose,” they stated.
Founded in 2022, Worc Studio originally made waves with innovative projects like boba tea shops showcasing lighting and material experimentation. With Savvia, they have further established their vision for contemporary communal spaces in a historical context.
Photography for this project was captured by Zaickz Moz, showcasing the sophisticated interplay between the restaurant’s design and its environment.
