Ferrari was detained in Lancaster County Jail after a Nebraska State Patrol trooper discovered the warrant while conducting a traffic stop on I-80. This incident occurred shortly after the Nebraska wrestling team secured victory over Purdue in Lincoln.

During his first court appearance, Ferrari’s defense attorney argued against waiving extradition. The defense claimed that Ferrari was en route to Omaha to catch a flight to Texas to address the warrant when he was stopped.
