JSX Launches Santa Monica Airport Service with Celebration
JSX has officially launched passenger service from Santa Monica Airport, enhancing regional travel options despite facing legal challenges. The Dallas-based public charter air carrier kicked off operations with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, as it prepares to meet the rising demand for seamless travel within the region.
Expansion of Flight Services
As part of its launch, JSX is expanding its Santa Monica service. Starting January 22, 2026, the airline will introduce daily nonstop flights to Scottsdale, Arizona. Additionally, flight frequencies to Las Vegas will increase to two daily flights, with plans to further expand to three daily flights by February 5, 2026.
Aircraft and Amenities
All Santa Monica flights will utilize JSX’s ATR 42-600 turboprop aircraft, configured to accommodate 30 passengers. The airline emphasizes a streamlined travel experience, boasting a 20-minute check-in process from curb to aircraft.
- Complimentary cocktails and in-seat charging available for passengers.
- Business-class legroom ensures comfort during flights.
- Fast and free Starlink Wi-Fi expected to roll out in early 2026.
Tickets can be purchased starting at $215 one-way, which includes two checked bags, subject to weight and size limitations. Flight reservations are accessible via the JSX website or mobile app.
Community Engagement and Legal Challenges
The launch of this service is backed by a three-year lease approved by the city in October. JSX plans to initiate at least six daily departures from Santa Monica Airport, with an option to expand to nine flights daily in the future.
While city officials assert that the service aligns with federal guidelines and past agreements, the rollout faces opposition. Residents, along with the advocacy group Measure LC Defense, filed a lawsuit challenging the approval, arguing that the city should have conducted a more in-depth environmental review.
City and Federal Regulations
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation have certified JSX to operate its aircraft safely at the airport. City Manager Oliver Chi noted that the service is in line with the 2017 federal consent decree, which mandates the airport’s operation until December 31, 2028.
JSX, founded in 2016, currently operates a diverse fleet that includes 50 Embraer jets and two ATR 42-600 turboprops. The company has already made significant inroads, with more than 2,200 local residents reportedly using its services for over 14,000 trips in recent years.
JSX positions Santa Monica Airport as a key gateway for enhanced regional air travel, aiming to provide a convenient and efficient option for local travelers.
