Poland Alerted as Objects Enter Airspace, BBN Issues Statement

The Polish National Security Bureau (BBN) has issued a statement regarding recent incidents involving unidentified objects entering Polish airspace from Belarus. President Karol Nawrocki is being kept well-informed by the head of BBN about the nature and ramifications of these incursions.

Details of the Incursions

On the night of January 16-17, local police in Białystok discovered a smuggling balloon in the city center. This balloon contained 1,500 packs of cigarettes that lacked Polish tax stamps.

Another similar balloon was recorded in the Sokółka County, specifically in Wierzchłowce, where there was an attempted smuggling of 150 cartons of cigarettes.

Continuous Monitoring by BBN

The BBN has been actively monitoring these events throughout the night. They are collecting and analyzing data from both military and civilian institutions.

Previous Incidents

Similar occurrences were noted during the night of December 24-25, 2025, when 59 objects entered Polish airspace from Belarus. The BBN has not ruled out the possibility that these actions may be provocations disguised as smuggling operations.

Public Advisory

  • The BBN urges citizens to stay alert to communications from the police and border guards.
  • If anyone finds objects, packages, or debris possibly linked to these incidents, they should avoid approaching them.
  • Immediate notification of relevant authorities is essential.

As the situation develops, BBN continues to emphasize the importance of vigilance among the public to enhance safety and security.
