Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Sporting CP in the summer of 2023. The deal, valued at €63.5 million (£55 million, $75 million), included potential add-ons of up to €10 million. Despite high expectations, Gyokeres has scored only eight goals in 26 appearances.

Before Arsenal’s Champions League match against Inter Milan, Jesus highlighted the strong bond they share. Both players are the same age, and Jesus understands the pressures of scoring after facing challenges of his own. He expressed confidence in Gyokeres’s ability to excel, stating, “He’s a top striker and scored a lot of goals at his previous club.”
With competition for the starting striker position intensifying—especially with the return of Kai Havertz from injury—Jesus remains optimistic. He said, “I’m just happy to come back after 11 months of injury. It’s not an easy position for Vik, but everyone here supports him.”

Teammates, including Bukayo Saka, have also defended Gyokeres’s adaptation to English football. Saka noted the need for the team to adjust their play style to better suit Gyokeres’s strengths.
