Chicago Suburban High School Students Walk Out to Protest ICE
On Tuesday, students from two suburban high schools in Chicago staged a walkout to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The demonstrations took place at Oak Park and River Forest High School, as well as Wheaton Warrenville South High School.
Student Protests Against ICE Policies
At Oak Park and River Forest High School, students left their classes at 2 p.m. Their demonstration was organized by the school’s Garden Club. The students expressed their concerns about the Trump administration’s immigration policies, which they believe are instilling fear within their community.
March to Congressman Davis’ Office
Following their walkout, students marched to the office of Congressman Danny Davis. They demanded stronger actions against mass deportations and called for the defunding of ICE. This peaceful protest aimed to raise awareness about the impact of immigration policies on students and their families.
Similar Actions at Wheaton Warrenville South
- Wheaton Warrenville South High School also held a walkout at 2 p.m. on the same day.
- Students there urged school administrators and the school board of Community Unit School District 200 to implement formal plans.
- The plans would protect students, staff, and community members from potential federal immigration actions.
The widespread participation reflects a growing concern regarding the treatment of immigrants and the enforcement of current immigration laws. Through these actions, students are taking a stand for their rights and those of their peers.
