Extreme Arctic cold has gripped South Korea, bringing frigid temperatures across the nation. The current cold wave is causing significant drops in temperatures, particularly in central regions.
Severe Temperature Drops in South Korea
As of January 21, temperatures in many areas are expected to hover around -10°C in the mornings. Daytime highs are predicted to reach between -6°C and 3°C. According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, the ongoing cold snap is generating temperatures over 5 degrees below average for this time of year.
Impact on Seoul and Surrounding Regions
Seoul recorded a morning temperature of -13°C, feeling like -16°C due to wind chill. This significant cold has prompted cold wave alerts across the Gyeonggi Province.

Forecast of Heavy Snow and Strong Winds
In addition to the cold, forecasts indicate heavy snowfall along the western coast and in island regions. A heavy snow warning is currently in effect for the southwestern coastal areas and Jeju Island.

- Jeju mountain areas: More than 25 cm of snow
Furthermore, strong winds are affecting the Chungnam and Honam coasts, intensifying the cold sensation for residents. The Meteorological Administration anticipates that temperatures in Seoul may reach a low of -14°C before the weekend, continuing the trend of severe cold.
