Controversy Over Trump’s Joke
The joke came after an assassination attempt involving former President Trump. Gass’s remark, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” was met with immediate backlash. As a result, Tenacious D had to cancel the remainder of their tour.
Jack Black’s Reaction
Following Gass’s comment, bandmate Jack Black expressed his dismay, stating that he felt “blindsided” by the situation. Black underscored his stance against hate speech and political violence, leading him to announce the halt of all band activities:

Gass Reflects on His Actions
In a recent interview, Gass admitted to poor judgment in making the joke. He acknowledged the severe consequences that followed, describing it as a “Defcon 2” situation for the band. Gass expressed deep regret, saying he has felt terrible about it since.

Despite the challenges, Gass remains optimistic about reuniting with Black. He likened their relationship to a marriage, stressing the importance of understanding each other during difficult times.
Gass is hopeful that Tenacious D will return in the future. He concluded, “We will serve no D-wine before it’s D-time — but we will be back.”
