Qatar Airways Boosts Flights to South Africa

Qatar Airways is set to enhance its services to South Africa beginning next month. The Doha-based airline will increase its flight frequencies to major cities including Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban. This expansion reflects Qatar Airways’ commitment to offering extensive travel options to its passengers.

Increased Flight Frequencies to South Africa

Currently, Qatar Airways operates 35 flights weekly to South Africa’s primary hubs. With the upcoming changes, the total will rise to 42 flights per week. This adjustment aims to provide greater flexibility for travelers, especially those connecting to Qatar Airways’ extensive global network.

Flight Schedule Updates

The adjustments to the flight schedules include:

  • Johannesburg: Flights will increase from 18 to 21 per week starting February 18.
  • Cape Town: Departures will rise from 12 to 14 weekly, starting February 17.
  • Durban: Service will expand from five to seven flights weekly, effective March 5.

The Durban service will also include a stopover at Maputo, Mozambique, enhancing connectivity for passengers in the region.

Strengthening Qatar Airways’ African Presence

This growth strategy follows a significant year for Qatar Airways in Africa, highlighted by collaborations with prominent carriers such as Air Algérie, Kenya Airways, and RwandAir. Furthermore, the airline solidified its presence in Southern Africa by acquiring a 25% equity stake in Airlink in October 2024.

Through these strategic expansions, Qatar Airways aims to bolster its footprint in Africa, making travel more accessible for passengers across the continent.
