‘The Last of Us’ Star Kaitlyn Dever Hints at Approaching Season 3 Production
Kaitlyn Dever is enthusiastic about the anticipated production of Season 3 of HBO’s acclaimed series, The Last of Us. In a recent conversation with Deadline, she confirmed her preparations to return to the set, expressing her excitement for a deeper role this season.
Kaitlyn Dever’s Role in Season 3
Dever mentioned that she is in the process of mentally and physically getting ready for filming. “I’m getting mentally and physically prepped right now. I go up in a couple days, actually, to start prep over there. I’m so excited to kind of take on a much bigger role in the season,” she stated.
Season 2 Recap and Cliffhanger
The Last of Us Season 2 concluded with a gripping cliffhanger, where Dever’s character, Abby, faces Ellie, portrayed by Bella Ramsey. In a pivotal scene, Abby kills Jesse, played by Young Mazino, and confronts Tommy, acted by Gabriel Luna. This tension-filled moment leaves viewers on edge as the screen fades to black, leaving the conclusion uncertain.
The final sequence hints at a flashback, signaling a revisit to earlier events from Abby’s perspective. This perspective shift aligns with elements from the original video game, enhancing the storytelling depth.
What to Expect in Season 3
Fans can look forward to a fresh narrative as the series shifts focus onto Abby, providing more context and detail about her story. Dever believes the audience will appreciate this new angle. “I think the fans are really going to like it, getting some more context onto her storyline and going back in time with this season,” she added.
Creative Changes Ahead of Season 3
Before the filming of Season 3, The Last of Us underwent some creative changes. Neil Druckmann, the co-creator and director of the original Naughty Dog video games, will take a step back. He is not involved in writing or directing episodes this season but remains a co-creator and executive producer.
- Neil Druckmann: Stepping back but staying on as co-creator and executive producer.
- Halley Gross: Exiting day-to-day duties as executive producer and writer.
The Future of The Last of Us
As of now, HBO has not clarified whether Season 3 will be the series’ last installment. The show, based on Naughty Dog’s award-winning video game, is set 20 years post-apocalypse. The story follows Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, as he navigates a perilous world alongside Ellie, a young girl with whom he forms a deep bond.
Seasons 2 and 3 take place five years after the events of the first season, as Joel and Ellie confront new challenges and conflicts in a world increasingly fraught with danger.
