Weekend Weather: Increasing Cold, Dry Conditions, Strong Winds, Fire Risk Warning

The country is currently experiencing a prolonged cold wave. As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to drop further, particularly in the latter half of the week. Early morning temperatures today indicated a low of minus 7 degrees Celsius in Seoul, with most regions slightly warmer than yesterday by 1 to 9 degrees. However, central areas remain below seasonal averages, and strong winds enhance the chill.

Forecast for the Coming Days

Tomorrow and Thursday morning, temperatures in Seoul may plummet to minus 10 degrees Celsius, and by Friday morning, we could see lows of minus 12 degrees. The wind chill factor will make it feel as cold as minus 20 degrees in some central parts of the country.

Dry Conditions and Fire Risk Warning

The eastern regions are increasingly experiencing dryness. Clear skies without any precipitation, combined with strong westerly winds, exacerbate this condition. A dry weather advisory remains in effect for Seoul and much of the eastern areas, with a dry warning specifically for the eastern coast, where humidity levels have dipped below 25 percent.

  • Strong winds are forecasted along the coast, with gusts reaching approximately 15 meters per second.
  • A national crisis alert for wildfire risks has been set at the “caution” level, highlighting the heightened fire danger.
  • Spring wildfire prevention measures have been initiated earlier this year than in previous years.

General Weather Outlook

Today, clear weather is expected nationwide. Daytime temperatures in Seoul will remain in the negative range, at around minus 2 degrees Celsius, and temperatures in the central region will stay below zero for the day. Meanwhile, ocean waves may reach heights of up to 3.5 meters in many areas.

This severe cold wave is anticipated to begin easing as February unfolds. Please take necessary precautions during this chilly period, especially given the high risk of wildfires.
