ITV’s Blunder Mars World Masters Darts Debut with New Line-up Reveal
ITV recently faced a significant blunder during the launch of their latest darts presenting line-up. The network introduced former Sky Sports anchor Pete Graves as the new face of their darts coverage at the Winmau World Masters held in Milton Keynes.
Key Events and Changes in Darts Coverage
The broadcast kicked off with a major oversight. Within moments, Graves’ name was incorrectly displayed on the screen as “Pete Greaves.” This error marred the beginning of his anticipated debut, especially after he expressed enthusiasm for his new role earlier that day.
Graves took to social media platform X, writing: “A new era begins tonight… I’m presenting the darts live for @OfficialPDC.” He informed fans that the match would be aired live on ITV4 and streamed on ITVX and PDCTV.
Transition of Presenters
Graves, 43, takes over from Jacqui Oatley, who left the role following her stint at the Players Championship Finals last November. Known for her popularity within the darts community, Oatley spent over a decade covering the sport.
Joining Graves will be Gabbie Partington, a familiar face at various World Series of Darts events. Partington’s connection with fellow ITV host Laura Woods has been noted by industry insiders.
Additional Team Members
ITV has expanded its darts commentary team by bringing in Wayne Mardle, a well-known figure who has participated in five World Darts Championship semi-finals. Another addition is Dan Dawson, alongside familiar names like Mark Wilson, Chris Mason, and Mark Webster.
Upcoming Matches at Winmau World Masters
The Winmau World Masters promises exciting action with notable players scheduled to compete. The roster includes:
- Gary Anderson
- Gerwyn Price
- Michael van Gerwen
- Gian van Veen
Friday will see the likes of Luke Littler and Luke Humphries join the competition as they vie for the title previously held by ‘Cool Hand’ last year.
As the darts season progresses, fans are eager to see how ITV’s new presenting team evolves and whether they can deliver an engaging viewing experience despite the rocky start.
