Lufthansa City Airlines has officially launched its operations from Frankfurt Airport, the primary hub of the Lufthansa Group. This marks a significant development for the airline, enhancing its service offerings in short-haul travel.

Inaugural Flight Details

The inaugural flight, designated VL946, departed from Frankfurt heading to Manchester. It utilized a state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo, showcasing the airline’s commitment to modern and efficient aircraft.

Expansion Plans

This launch follows the successful introduction of services in Munich during the summer of 2024. The establishment of a Frankfurt base is a strategic move to bolster Lufthansa City Airlines’ market presence.

Starting in summer 2026, Lufthansa City Airlines plans to introduce more destinations from Frankfurt. New routes will include:

Fleet Expansion

By autumn 2025, the fleet based in Frankfurt will expand to seven Airbus A320neo aircraft. Currently, the airline operates 13 aircraft at its Munich hub, reflecting strong operational growth.

As of September 2025, Lufthansa City Airlines became a permanent member of the Star Alliance, enhancing its global connectivity and network capabilities.
