AMA Delivers Repaired Bus to Greater Accra Market Association

The Greater Accra Market Association has received a repaired bus from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). This marks the end of over five years of inactivity for the vehicle, which is expected to enhance the association’s operations and mobility.

Handing Over Ceremony Details

The bus was officially handed over during the association’s 65th End-of-Year Gathering and General Meeting held in Accra on Thursday. Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, were present at the event. Among the attendees was Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, along with various dignitaries.

Support Provided by AMA

During the ceremony, Mayor Allotey declared that the AMA will not only provide a driver for the bus but will also cover its monthly running costs. The vehicle’s air-conditioning system has been repaired, ensuring it is fully operational for official duties.

Background of the Initiative

The initiative to reactivate the bus stemmed from a discussion with First Lady Lordina Mahama in December. She highlighted the prolonged inactivity of the vehicle, prompting the Mayor to take action. The Mayor emphasized the importance of fulfilling promises, guided by advice from President John Mahama regarding commitments.

Remarks from Officials

  • Linda Obenewaa Ocloo remarked that the presentation was made on behalf of the President and the First Lady.
  • She encouraged the Greater Accra Market Association to maintain communication with the Assembly for any future support.

Reception by the Market Association

The President of the Greater Accra Market Association, Madam Mercy Naa Afrowa Needjan, expressed her gratitude to the President, the First Lady, and the Mayor. She acknowledged that the bus had remained unused for over five years, and its return will significantly boost the association’s operations throughout the metropolis.
