  • Slow down and remain cautious while driving.
  • If traveling, pack extra supplies in your vehicle, including a flashlight, food, and water.
  • Share your travel itinerary with family or friends.
  • Keep your vehicle fueled and equipped with winter essentials such as a windshield scraper and jumper cables.
  • If stranded, stay calm and avoid leaving your vehicle. Signal for help by attaching a cloth to your antenna.

Understanding Hazardous Conditions

Weather-related accidents are a significant concern during winter months, leading to thousands of fatalities and injuries annually. Cold temperatures can create icy road conditions, making it essential for drivers to adjust their habits.

Be particularly wary of ice that may form on power lines or trees, as it can lead to falling hazards. When possible, avoid driving on routes with many trees or power lines. If you encounter a downed power line, do not approach it; instead, call 911 for assistance.

Preparation is Key

Before heading out during this winter weather advisory, check the latest road conditions. Being informed encourages safe decision-making. Taking these steps can help mitigate risks and keep you safe during inclement weather.
