Honoring Joseph Willie Comeau

This Heritage Day will honor Joseph Willie Comeau, a distinguished figure in Canadian politics. Originating from Clare in Digby County, Comeau was a passionate advocate for Acadian communities.

First elected to the legislative assembly in 1907, he served nine consecutive terms. In 1948, he was appointed to the Senate, serving until his passing in 1966 at the age of 89. Besides politics, Comeau was an educator and entrepreneur, as well as a father to 16 children.

As Halifax celebrates Heritage Day, attendees are encouraged to reflect on the contributions of historical figures like Comeau and engage with the community while navigating the available services.
