St. John’s is experiencing severe weather conditions due to a major snowstorm. As a result, schools, government offices, and numerous businesses in the metro area are closed today. The storm is expected to bring significant snowfall, with accumulations potentially reaching up to 60 centimeters.

Impact of the Snowstorm in St. John’s

So far, 25 to 30 centimeters of snow have already been recorded. Metrobus and GoBus services have been halted for the day due to unsafe conditions. Additionally, both Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) and College of the North Atlantic (CNA) suspended morning classes in response to the inclement weather.

Weather Conditions

The snowstorm has been accompanied by strong winds. Newfoundland Power teams worked overnight to restore electricity to thousands of homes affected by the storm. These crews are dealing with winds expected to gust between 80 and 100 kilometers per hour throughout the day.
