Poor Weather Conditions Predicted
The weather forecast for Madeira indicates severe conditions that may impact air travel next week. Strong winds are predicted for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, potentially leading to significant disruptions at Madeira Airport.
Poor Weather Conditions Predicted for Madeira Airport
Current forecasts show winds will slightly ease tomorrow, providing a brief respite on Sunday. This day is expected to offer calmer conditions, allowing for better flying opportunities. However, as the demand for flights increases, the situation may become challenging.
Wind Forecast and Air Travel Disruptions
Over the weekend, strong winds have been affecting air travel operations. According to Ricardo Tavares, director of the Madeira Meteorological Observatory, conditions are expected to improve slightly on Friday and Saturday. He noted:
- Wind intensity is projected to decrease.
- A shift in wind direction to the northeast is anticipated.
- Improved conditions will create opportunities for landing flights.
Despite these improvements, the wind will still be strong, especially in Madeira’s eastern and western regions. Tavares stated that Sunday will see:
- A significant decrease in wind intensity.
- Light to moderate winds from the north.
Worsening Conditions Ahead
The lull in severe weather will be short-lived. Starting Monday, winds are expected to intensify again, possibly leading to fresh disruptions in air operations. Forecasts indicate that:
- Winds will remain strong through Wednesday.
- A gradual decrease is expected only after Wednesday afternoon.
Precipitation and Sea Conditions
Rain is also anticipated, especially on Monday morning, with heavier showers likely in the highlands and northern slopes of Madeira. Sea conditions will remain turbulent, with:
- Northwest waves reaching two to three meters on the north coast.
- Waves of one to two meters expected on the south coast.
From Monday afternoon, an increase in sea swell is expected, with potential wave heights of four to five meters affecting the north coast and Porto Santo. This hazardous sea condition could lead to a weather warning being issued.
Travelers should stay informed about the weather situation and prepare for potential disruptions in air travel.
