Australian Star’s Unexpected Backstage Detour Mid-Show

In an unexpected yet entertaining twist, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala has introduced a humorous element to the band’s Deadbeat tour. During performances, instead of departing the stage for a quick costume change like many artists, Parker brings along a cameraman for a mid-show bathroom break.

This unique backstage detour showcases Parker’s commitment to adding comedic flair to his performances. While the band continues playing, the camera tracks Parker to the restroom, dropping to view his feet until he finishes. The footage captures him washing his hands and fixing his hair before he returns to the stage, much to the delight of fans.

A Unique Approach to Mid-Show Breaks

Parker shared that the idea stemmed from a practical need during lengthy performances. “I’m drinking fluids on stage, and being on stage for a long time means I needed a pee break,” he explained. The solution was to turn this necessity into a quirky part of the show, embracing the “chaos” that comes with live performances.

Upcoming Australian Leg of the Tour

Tame Impala’s Australian tour is set to kick off in October 2023, featuring four major arena concerts:

  • Brisbane: Brisbane Entertainment Centre on October 10
  • Melbourne: Rod Laver Arena on October 14
  • Sydney: Qudos Bank Arena on October 19
  • Perth: RAC Arena on October 24

With significant gaps between these shows, fans might anticipate additional dates being announced to meet demand. Parker aims to provide an extravagant experience for his Australian audience, ensuring that the full Deadbeat production, including impressive lighting and lasers, is part of the experience.

Emphasizing Quality Over Profit

Parker acknowledges a trend where international acts often scale down their productions when performing in Australia due to logistical challenges. However, he’s determined to make the Australian shows as spectacular as those in other countries.

“It’s important for me that these shows are epic. I’m less concerned about profitability,” Parker stated. His focus remains on delivering a grand experience, regardless of the challenges posed by traveling between cities in Australia.

Recent Success and Ticket Sales

Parker and Tame Impala have started 2023 on a high note. Their single “Dracula” ranked No. 3 on Triple J’s Hottest 100, while their track “End of Summer” won a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording.

Tickets for the Deadbeat tour will be available soon. Frontier Members can access the pre-sale on February 25 at 9 am local time, with general sales commencing on February 27 at 11 am local time through Ticketek.
