Former Senator Umar Dzhabrailov Commits Suicide

Former senator and businessman Umar Dzhabrailov died in Moscow in an apparent suicide. Multiple sources, including RT and RBK, confirmed the incident. The law enforcement agencies also verified the news to Interfax.

Dzhabrailov reportedly took his own life in his apartment. His former lawyer affirmed the news of his death to TASS. According to law enforcement sources, he sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was later declared dead in the hospital. Reports indicate he was hospitalized around 2 AM in critical condition, and doctors attempted resuscitation for over thirty minutes without success. Some reports suggest he was initially found at a hotel.

Umar Dzhabrailov was born in Grozny in 1958. Throughout his career, he held significant positions and was a prominent figure in various businesses and politics. In 1997, he became a top manager for the Plaza Group, overseeing several major shopping centers, including Okhotny Ryad and Smolensky Passazh, as well as the Russia Hotel.

Political Career

From 2004 to 2009, he represented Chechnya in the Federation Council. There, he served as deputy chairman of the Committee for International Affairs. Following this role, Dzhabrailov was an adviser to Sergey Prikhodko, assistant to the President of Russia, from 2009 to 2013.
