Tennessee women’s basketball has strengthened its coaching staff with the appointment of Isoken Uzamere as assistant coach. Head coach Kim Caldwell announced the news on Tuesday, highlighting Uzamere’s extensive experience and contributions to women’s basketball.
Isoken Uzamere’s Coaching Background
Isoken Uzamere, previously an assistant coach at the University of Georgia, has been recognized as one of the “50 Most Impactful High Major NCAA Division I Women’s Assistant Coaches” by Silver Waves Media in 2023. She brings a wealth of experience from her four-year tenure at UGA, where she was instrumental in the team’s success.
Significant Achievements at Georgia
- Helped the Bulldogs participate in nine NCAA Tournaments.
- Contributed to a 22-win season in 2023 and a solid 22-10 record in 2026.
- Assisted in the development of top players, including Javyn Nicholson and Mia Woolfolk.
During her time at Georgia, Uzamere specialized in working with post players. Notably, she was crucial in enhancing Javyn Nicholson’s performance, helping her significantly increase her scoring and rebounding stats.
Previous Coaching Experience
Before her successful stint at Georgia, Uzamere spent six years at the University of Central Florida (UCF). There, she contributed to five postseason appearances, achieving three NCAA bids and winning two American Athletic Conference titles.

- Instrumental in guiding Brittney Smith to AAC Sixth Player of the Year honors in 2021-22.
- Facilitated Nyala Shuler’s achievement of ranking fourth in school history for rebounds.

Player Background
As a former collegiate athlete, Uzamere played forward at Hofstra University from 2007 to 2011. She achieved accolades as a two-time Colonial Athletic Association All-Academic player. After her playing career, she began coaching at the AAU level and developed her skills as a coach and mentor.
Uzamere holds a B.A. in communications from Hofstra and an M.A. in interpersonal and intercultural communication from the University of Albany. Her diverse coaching experiences and proven track record make her a valuable addition to the Tennessee women’s basketball team.
