Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Vitale has recently shared a serious health update. He has been diagnosed with melanoma affecting his lung and liver cavity. Vitale is set to start immunotherapy soon as part of his treatment plan. This latest diagnosis comes as a continuation of his battle with cancer, having previously fought four different types.

Dick Vitale’s Ongoing Battle with Cancer

The 86-year-old Vitale has a history of overcoming significant health challenges. He has successfully battled melanoma, lymphoma, vocal cord cancer, and lymph node cancer over the past few years. In a statement, he expressed confidence in his ability to conquer this latest hurdle, stating, “I’m four-for-four and I’m fully confident I’m going to make it five-for-five.”

Vitale took a nearly two-year hiatus from broadcasting to focus on his health. He made a return in February 2025, announcing that he was cancer-free. This year marks his 46th season covering college basketball for ESPN, a major milestone in his broadcasting career.
