Dayton Children’s Secures $40M Donation, Renames Main Campus

Dayton Children’s Hospital has received a remarkable $40 million donation from philanthropist Tom Golisano. This contribution is set to rename the main campus as the Dayton Children’s “Golisano Comprehensive Care Campus.” The announcement was made on April 20 at the hospital’s main facility in Dayton.

Significance of the Donation

Deborah Feldman, the hospital’s outgoing president and CEO, emphasized the importance of this investment. It aims to enhance healthcare access for children and families in the region. “This is an opportunity to intervene earlier and redesign care to support the whole child,” she stated.

Investment Goals

The donation will support various initiatives, including:

  • Expanding Pediatric Primary Care: Enhancing access to strengthen long-term health outcomes.
  • Integrated Mental Health Services: Incorporating behavioral health into all aspects of care to address crises effectively.
  • Community Engagement: Delivering services closer to schools and homes to remove barriers to healthcare.
  • Accountability Through Data: Utilizing analytics to improve and measure health outcomes.

Impact on Regional Healthcare

Golisano highlighted that children deserve timely healthcare to prevent crises. He stated, “Dayton Children’s has a vision for improving children’s health by reaching families earlier.” This aligns with the broader initiative of bridging healthcare access for both urban and rural communities.

This donation is part of Golisano’s larger commitment, totaling $125 million, to improve pediatric healthcare. It will also connect Dayton Children’s with the Golisano Children’s Alliance, a growing network of children’s hospitals. This alliance aims to enhance healthcare delivery across various regions.

Future Expansion Plans

Additional contributions will support Akron Children’s Hospital ($50 million) and Avera Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota ($35 million). Golisano aims to ultimately expand the Golisano Children’s Alliance to 40 hospitals within several years, ensuring better healthcare access for millions of children nationwide.

With this transformative donation, Dayton Children’s is poised to improve the health and welfare of children in the community, guided by a commitment to proactive and integrative care.
