James Gray’s “Paper Tiger,” a New York-based crime drama featuring notable actors like Adam Driver, Miles Teller, and Scarlett Johansson, has officially joined the festival lineup. This marks Gray’s sixth appearance at Cannes, following his 2022 film “Armageddon Time.” The film’s selection has quelled ongoing speculation regarding its participation in the festival.

Judith Godrèche’s Directorial Debut

“A Girl’s Story,” adapted from Annie Ernaux’s autobiography, is set to captivate audiences. It stars Valérie Dréville, Tess Barthélémy, Maïwène Barthélémy, and Anna Mouglalis, depicting Ernaux’s memories during a book-signing trip that evokes her summer from 1958. Godrèche gained attention in 2024 due to serious allegations against prominent French directors.

Other Notable Additions

Several intriguing films have been included in the festival’s latest lineup:

  • “Victorian Psycho” by Zachary Wigon: A gothic horror-thriller featuring Maika Monroe and Jason Isaacs. Set in Victorian England, the story revolves around a governess with hidden psychopathic tendencies.
  • “Titanic Ocean” by Konstantina Kotzamani: This coming-of-age narrative takes place in a specialized boarding school in Japan, where teenage girls are trained to become professional mermaids.
  • “Lucy Lost” by Olivier Clert: Based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel, the film tells the story of an enigmatic 11-year-old girl with visions that arouse suspicion in her quaint fishing village.

The Cannes Film Festival will run from May 12 to May 23, showcasing a diverse array of talent and storytelling. This year’s selection highlights both established filmmakers and newcomers, making for an exciting cinematic experience.
