Alison Hammond Leads Itv Name That Tune Revival Back to ITV1

ITV is set to revive itv name that tune revival with Alison Hammond presenting, bringing the music quiz back to ITV1 and ITVX. Hammond called the job a “real full-circle moment,” after growing up with the original series and later fronting musical TV herself.

Hammond said the “biggest challenge as a host will be trying not to grab the mic and start singing along when one of [her] all-time favourite tunes comes on” and added, “And trust me… that will take serious self control!” She also said, “I cannot wait to get into the studio, put the contestants through their paces, and see who really knows their music.”

That puts a familiar, performance-led presenter at the center of a format built on contestants going head-to-head over music knowledge. ITV’s Katie Rawcliffe said, “Name That Tune is such an iconic brand we are excited to be bringing this refreshed global format to the UK audience.”

From radio to 1987

Name That Tune began on radio in the '50s before becoming a staple of TV screens in the '70s and '80s. The original UK run ended in 1987, with Tom O'Connor first hosting and Lionel Blair later taking over.

The format has already had a short run on Channel 5 with Jools Holland, and it was recently revived in the US. The new UK version will use the band from the American counterpart, which has worked with Adele and Spice Girls.

Play along on ITVX

Rawcliffe said, “It's a fun family series that not only sees contestants challenged in the studio, but viewers can play along with all the family, providing a unique playlist that spans generations.” That makes the return more than a nostalgia play: ITV is pairing a known format with a presenter who can carry entertainment, timing and live music pressure in the same hour.

For viewers, the practical change is simple. The quiz returns on ITV1 and ITVX, with Hammond in the host chair and the US band giving the new version a different sound from the earlier UK runs.
