Wu Yize Reaches Final at 22 — How Old Is Wu Yize
how old is wu yize? He is 22, and late on Saturday evening he beat Mark Allen to reach the World Snooker Championship final. The win left him one match from the sport's biggest prize and put China back in the final for the second successive year.
Wu will face Shaun Murphy for the title, with the final carrying a direct link to the game's recent history. Murphy won his only previous world title in 2005, when Wu was only 18 months old.
Wu Yize in Sheffield
The run has been built over years, not days. Wu moved to Sheffield as a 16-year-old to chase his snooker dream after leaving Lanzhou, and he initially lived in a windowless flat in the UK before sleeping on the same bed as his father.
He turned professional at 17, then added a first ranking title at the International Championship in Nanjing last November. This season has also taken him to the semi-finals of the Masters on his debut, giving him a clear line of progress before his latest breakthrough.
Mark Allen and the route
Wu's place in the final came after he advanced past Lei Peifan, Mark Selby and Hossein Vafaei before getting through Allen. That path gives the final a different edge: he has already handled a series of established names to get this far.
He also carries the backing of some of the sport's biggest figures. Ronnie O'Sullivan and Shaun Murphy had tipped him as a future world champion, while Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins have previously offered him advice and guidance.
Murphy awaits Wu
Wu made his own target plain after beating Allen: "I want to give my best efforts and everything I have got to try to win the World Championship". He also said, "Shaun Murphy has been playing well throughout the tournament, he beat Zhao Xintong and he's been playing well in terms of scoring, so it's going to be a very tough match but I believe both players are going to give their best."
His rise has already changed the bracket around him. If he beats Murphy, Wu would become the second youngest player to win a world crown behind Stephen Hendry, and China would again have a finalist at the World Championship after a second straight year.
