San Diego Weather: Two Rain Waves Reach San Diego County Late Tonight
San Diego weather turns wetter late tonight, when the first wave of light rain is expected to reach parts of San Diego County before a second round arrives Monday night into Tuesday morning. Another round of low clouds and gray skies is already covering the coast and pushing into the inland valleys.
The best chance for measurable rainfall is split between those two windows, while coastal and valley areas are expected to see only trace amounts. The mountains could pick up close to a quarter of an inch, and some coastal communities and nearby valleys could wake up to light moisture on the roads.
San Diego County clouds
A deepening marine layer is driving widespread cloud cover and patchy drizzle, especially west of the mountains. Conditions are expected to gradually improve through the late morning and into the afternoon, but the low-pressure system approaching from the northwest will keep the pattern unsettled through early next week.
That system is also bringing breezy conditions and increasing cloud cover. Winds will increase, particularly in the mountains and deserts, where gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph and isolated gusts could reach as high as 60 mph in wind-prone areas such as mountain passes.
Monday and Tuesday
Monday and Tuesday are expected to be the coolest days of the week, with daytime highs falling below seasonal averages across much of the region. Forecast highs are 64–68° at the coast, 68–74° in the inland valleys, 48–58° in the mountains, and 74–82° in the deserts.
The coolest stretch is brief. By midweek, drier conditions are expected to return as high pressure begins to build back in, and the warming trend is expected to continue into next weekend, with inland areas climbing well above normal.
For now, the practical change for coastal and valley residents is simple: expect cloudy skies, a small chance of drizzle or light road moisture, and the stronger chance of measurable rain arriving in two short waves rather than one sustained event.
