Michael Zerafa says Anthony Mundine fight with Rahim is miles apart
Michael Zerafa has shut down the idea of fighting anthony mundine’s son, Rahim Mundine, saying the gap between them is “miles apart.” Rahim had already shown interest in the matchup, but Zerafa’s latest comments leave little room for speculation.
Zerafa Draws The Line
Zerafa said he respects the Mundine family and called it “a legendary name in Australia,” but he made the gap in experience the central point. “I guess Raheem’s got a little bit more to prove. He’s a talent,” he said.
He then spelled out why the fight does not make sense from his side. “I feel if he gets to wherever I’m at, I’ll be well and truly done. He’s only two fights in,” Zerafa said.
The numbers he pointed to were stark. “I think he’s ranked like 900 in the world. I’m sitting top 10 in the world. There’s a huge margin between us,” he said. “Where I’m going and where he’s at are two different worlds.”
Rahim Mundine In Newcastle
Rahim Mundine will get back in the ring on Wednesday night in Newcastle, where he faces Lance McDonald in a five-round clash on the undercard of Nikita Tszyu’s bout with Oscar Diaz. It will be his second professional fight.
That makes Zerafa’s comments arrive at a time when Mundine is still building his record rather than chasing opponents from a much higher rung. Rahim has already said Zerafa and Jeff Horn were celebrating like they had beaten a prime Mundine, and that the comment rubbed him the wrong way.
Anthony Mundine has also been part of the backdrop, saying Zerafa took “the easy way out” in his no-contest against Tszyu earlier this year. Zerafa’s latest stance keeps the focus on the gap he sees between himself and Rahim, not on a fight that would require a much different point in both men’s careers.
For now, Rahim’s next task is McDonald in Newcastle. Zerafa has made clear he does not see the Mundine name alone as enough to bridge the distance he says separates them.
