Schweinsteiger Calls Jamal Musiala and Wirtz Germany's Ribery and Robben

Bastian Schweinsteiger put jamal musiala and Florian Wirtz in rare company, saying he sees them as Germany's Ribery and Robben. The former Bayern Munich midfielder also made clear how he would use Wirtz if they played together.

Schweinsteiger backs Wirtz

"I see Wirtz and Musiala as our Ribery and Robben," Schweinsteiger said to Sport Bild via Bulinews. He added: "If I were playing with Wirtz, I would simply give him the ball as often as possible, because he needs the ball to make his game more dominant."

That view places Wirtz in a role built around supply, not restraint. Schweinsteiger pointed to a pass Wirtz produced for Germany against Switzerland, a reminder of the kind of delivery that can tilt a game when he gets into rhythm.

Wirtz Under Liverpool Pressure

The praise lands while Wirtz is under a harsher lens in England. He joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last summer for a club-record fee, and his first season at Anfield has been inconsistent.

After Liverpool's defeat at Manchester United, Jamie Carragher said Wirtz had been poor at Old Trafford. Marcus Babbel also described English football as faster and harder than football in Germany, adding another layer to the scrutiny around the 23-year-old.

Germany and the World Cup

For Germany, the comparison says as much about confidence as it does about talent. Schweinsteiger's pairing of Wirtz and Musiala with Ribery and Robben keeps the focus on how the national side views its attacking core, even with the summer of 2025 ahead of the World Cup.

For Wirtz, the message is simple: keep the ball moving his way. That is the route Schweinsteiger wants to see, and it is also the standard now hanging over a player who arrived at Liverpool for a club-record fee and is still trying to find a steadier level.
