Bonnie Tyler Placed in Coma Artificiel After Faro Surgery
Bonnie Tyler, 74, was placed in a coma artificiel after emergency intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal. She had been admitted to hospital in southern Portugal on Wednesday, and doctors moved her into an artificial coma on Thursday to aid her recovery.
Her spokesperson, Judd Lander, said on Friday that “Les médecins de Bonnie l'ont placée dans un coma artificiel pour favoriser son rétablissement” and added, “Nous vous demandons de respecter son intimité en ces moments difficiles.” Tyler had initially been reported to be recovering after the operation, before the change in treatment.
Faro Hospital and recovery
The surgery took place after Tyler underwent an emergency intestinal operation in Faro. Her entourage first said the procedure had gone well and that she had begun her convalescence, but doctors then decided on the artificial coma on Thursday.
Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins in Wales in 1951, became internationally famous at the end of the 1970s and with Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983. She also represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 with Believe in me and finished 19th.
Tour plans from 22 May
The medical development interrupts a new tour that was due to begin on 22 May, with dates planned in Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom. Tyler also received the MBE from King Charles III in 2023 after being honored by Elizabeth II in 2022.
For fans holding tickets, the immediate focus is her recovery in Faro, while the next scheduled dates on the itinerary remain tied to her condition and her team’s decisions in the days ahead.
