Four Fire Engines Sent to Malvern Hills Blaze
A large fire broke out on the malvern hills at 16:31 BST, prompting Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service to send four fire engines and two off-road vehicles. By 18:00 BST, the blaze was still burning on the side of the hills closest to Malvern.
Malvern Hills Fire Response
The fire service had been called at 16:31 BST and moved quickly to the hillside scene with vehicles suited to rough ground as well as standard engines. West Mercia Police was also called and was managing traffic in the area, adding a separate response alongside the firefighting effort.
Side Closest to Malvern
The fire affected the side of the Malvern Hills nearest the town, bringing the incident into the part of the hills most immediately tied to local access routes. No-one appeared to have been hurt, which left the incident focused on containment rather than casualty response.
Heavy rain was likely to assist attempts to put out the blaze, but the fire service said at 18:00 BST that it was still burning. For people in and around Malvern, that meant the response was still active more than two and a half hours after the first call came in, with traffic control still in place while crews kept working on the hillside.
