Leicester Family Rehomes 250 Poodle Cross Dogs Rescued Winston
A poodle-cross dog rescued in the 250 poodle cross dogs rescued operation has been rehomed with a family in Leicester. Winston, 10 months old, moved in with Lisa and Mark Bream last month after being cared for at the RSPCA Woodside centre.
Winston and the Bream family
Lisa Bream said Winston has brought so much love to the household and described his progress as "heartwarming". She said, "He was a trembling wreck - you could immediately tell how nervous he was."
Bream said, "He cautiously licked my husband's hand as if he wanted to interact with us but he wasn't sure he should." She added, "Initially we had to carry him everywhere, everything was so new to him, he was even scared of his own collar and lead."
Winston now loves going out in the garden at his new home in Leicester, and he has already built a "great friendship" with Daisy, the Breams' eight-year-old dog.
RSPCA Woodside in Leicester
The RSPCA discovered more than 250 crossbreed dogs in January at an undisclosed location, where they had been living in a cramped living room. Jade Burton, head of animal services at RSPCA Woodside, said the dogs' numbers and living conditions had rapidly grown out of control amid extenuating family circumstances.
Burton said, "When Winston and the other dogs came into our care, they were scared of humans, wary of their surroundings and completely overwhelmed." Leicester's RSPCA Woodside centre cared for Winston and 11 other dogs, all of them severely matted, covered in faeces and scared of humans on arrival.
Dogs Trust and Tiger
The RSPCA took in 87 of the rescued dogs and said the vast majority of them had already been rehomed, with two still up for adoption. Dogs Trust took in the rest and said more than 115 of the dogs had been rehomed, along with 10 puppies born in its care.
Another dog from the same operation, Tiger, was rehomed last month by Charlotte Chubb and Justine Drury after being cared for by the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre in Nottinghamshire. Chubb said Tiger "loves the new found freedom" after joining their home, where the pair wanted extra company for their two other pets.
