Zach Dezenzo Recalled From Triple-A in Astros Roster Shake-Up
zach dezenzo is back on the Houston Astros’ active roster after a recall from Triple-A, and the move came as part of a broader shake-up. The club also moved Harris off the roster and optioned Weiss, leaving the bullpen and bench with a different look.
Dezenzo Returns to Houston
Dezenzo’s recall gives the Astros another position-player option while the team sorts through multiple roster changes at once. The move lands during a stretch when the club is looking for fresh arms, and the active roster now reflects that push to change course quickly.
The Astros announced the roster moves to the active roster together, and Dezenzo was the clearest addition in the group. For a player coming back from Triple-A, the timing matters because the club is not making a single isolated adjustment — it is trying to rework several spots at once.
Weiss Struggles, Alexander Moves In
Weiss was sent out after a rough six-appearance stretch that drove his ERA from 1.50 to 7.62. Over those 20 innings, he allowed 21 earned runs, 18 walks and seven home runs, and he gave up multiple runs in each of those six outings.
His early work had looked far cleaner. In his first three appearances, Weiss allowed one run over six innings, walked two and struck out seven, but the collapse after that left him with a 2.12 WHIP and forced the Astros to move on.
Alexander is the pitcher sliding into the bullpen, and he had last pitched on April 30. That gives Houston another arm to work with after the club was thin enough to keep changing pieces around rather than standing pat.
Harris Off, Third Base Open
Harris was the other notable roster casualty. He went 7-for-31 with the Astros and finished with a.226 batting average, a.286 on-base percentage and a.576 OPS.
The roster churn also comes with a larger hole in the lineup structure because the star third baseman is out for the season. That leaves Houston making short-term decisions around Dezenzo, Alexander, Harris and Weiss while the roster settles into its next shape.
For Dezenzo, the immediate assignment is simple: take the active-roster opportunity and make it stick. For the Astros, the bigger message is the roster is no longer being left alone after the recent slide in results and performances.
