Moses lands golden point winner as Eels beat Cowboys 33-30 — Nrl Eels V Cowboys

Mitchell Moses kicked the golden point field goal to lift the Parramatta Eels past the North Queensland Cowboys 33-30 in nrl eels v cowboys. The Eels came from eight points down late, forced extra time and left round 11 with a win that tightened the focus on both clubs as Origin squads loomed.

Moses settles Nrl Eels V Cowboys

The finish arrived after Parramatta scored twice to drag the game into golden point, then Moses struck the winner. North Queensland had led by eight points late, but the Eels kept finding a way back and completed at more than 90 per cent through the contest, which kept their attack clean enough to stay within range.

Parramatta also had a second chance to press the advantage after Scott Drinkwater went for a chargedown on the field goal and the Eels were awarded a penalty. Ronald Volkman then added a goal from right in front, backing up the decisive kick and underlining how quickly the game swung once golden point began.

Dearden limps through Round 11

Tom Dearden’s night turned when he was awkwardly tackled from behind with 20 minutes to play. He battled on through the pain, but his influence faded and he succumbed to the injury after the 80th minute, leaving North Queensland to finish without its halfback at full strength.

That injury matters because both Origin camps were set to be closely monitoring the situation during the week, with squads to be named at the conclusion of round 11. For the Cowboys, it turned a late collapse into more than a two-point loss on the scoreboard; for Parramatta, it added pressure to a win that already came off the back of a heavy workload in the final stages.

Taumalolo milestone before kick-off

The night had started with Jason Taumalolo’s 295th game for the Cowboys, a milestone that made him North Queensland’s most-capped player of all time. Johnathan Thurston presented his jersey before kick-off and said: “It’s a history-breaking night tonight and it’s an honour and a privilege to be here on the sideline for it.”

He added: “It was a huge honour to be asked by Jason and the club to present his jersey for tonight. It was quite emotional, I had to hold it all together to get through it.” By the end of the match, the milestone had been overtaken by the comeback, and Moses had the last word with the kick that decided a 33-30 finish.
