North West 200 Rider Dies in Station Corner Crash — Nw200 Schedule

The nw200 schedule changed on Thursday after a rider died in Superbike qualifying at Station Corner during the North West 200. The crash ended the first session of the day, and the remaining afternoon sessions did not go ahead.

Station Corner Crash

North West 200 organisers said the session was immediately red-flagged and emergency services attended the scene but unfortunately the rider succumbed to his injuries. The rider was not named because of the wishes of his family, while the family gave their approval for the event to continue and requested that he not be named at that time.

Station Corner is a fast right-hand bend on the road between Portstewart and Coleraine. The North West 200 runs on 8.97 miles of closed public roads on the north coast of Northern Ireland between Portstewart, Coleraine and Portrush.

North West 200 History

The fatality was the first at the event since Malachi Mitchell-Thomas was killed in a Supertwins race in 2016. It was also the 20th death in the 97-year history of the race.

Coleraine and District Motor Club, the organisers of the races, said: “Coleraine and District Motor Club, the organisers of the races, offer our sincere condolences to the family and team.”

Thursday Night Change

Qualifying sessions were moved to Thursday night to replace the planned opening three races. Race organisers had not yet confirmed whether Saturday's schedule would include any additional races on top of the planned six.

For riders and teams, the immediate change is straightforward: the day’s afternoon running was wiped out, and the revised programme now shifts qualifying into the evening. The fatal crash left the event carrying on under a changed timetable, with the full Saturday card still not settled around the planned six races.
