Aaron Rai Leads By 10 Under at Pga Leaderboard Today
Aaron Rai moved to the top of the pga leaderboard today at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic after a four-under-par 67 in Friday’s second round. He reached 10-under-par at Dunes Golf and Beach Club, with Brandt Snedeker and Mark Hubbard one stroke behind going into the weekend.
Aaron Rai Takes Control
Rai’s 67 gave him the outright lead after the second round, a steady move after the field tightened around him on Friday. His round left him at 10-under-par and set up a weekend chase with two players still within a single shot.
“Really positive. I think no matter how much you practice at home, you never know quite how it translates. Over the last four weeks or so I’ve had a couple of starts out on TOUR, and there’s been some really good, positive signs,” Rai said after his round. “Just haven’t quite managed to do it for three rounds, for four rounds. So there’s definitely some good things in there and great start off in this way, but still a very long way to go over the weekend.”
Snedeker And Hubbard Lurk
Snedeker matched the pressure with a bogey-free 66, the lowest round among the players near the top, and climbed five places to tie for second. Hubbard stayed in the chase as well, though he described the week as “Just been a weird week” after saying the last two days had been strange.
Hubbard added that he had not made a birdie on any of the par-5s, but he still had six birdies on the par-3s. He said, “Overall I think more than anything I’ve been really happy with just how I’ve played and carried myself. My attitude has been better this week. Just playing a little more freely than I have been for the past couple months. That’s what eventually paid off.”
Power Slips To T38
Séamus Power’s Friday moved the other way. He shot a one-over-par 72, dropped from T17 to T38, and finished the round at two-under-par after starting the day with momentum from an opening three-under-par round.
Power still found one bright spot at the par-4 16th, but the round turned at the start and middle of the card. He opened with back-to-back bogeys at the first and second holes, added more at the par-3 fifth and the seventh hole, then closed with a birdie at the last hole.
That leaves Rai in front, Snedeker and Hubbard one shot back, and Power trying to recover from a round that pushed him outside the top 30 on a leaderboard that tightened quickly at Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
