Kinsky Keeps Tottenham Place After Atlético Setback
Antonin kinsky kept his place in goal for Tottenham after the Madrid episode that shook his season, and Roberto De Zerbi is still trusting the 23-year-old with the gloves. He will start against Leeds because Guglielmo Vicario remains unavailable, keeping Kinsky in the spotlight after a difficult Champions League night on 10 March.
De Zerbi Backs Kinsky
De Zerbi has counted on Kinsky in each of his four matches in charge. Before the home game against Leeds, he called the goalkeeper "an example" and said, "What he felt after Madrid, for sure, was a big, big motivation for him".
That support has been backed up by selection, not just words. De Zerbi also said, "If you have pride, if you have dignity, if you have the right spirit, if you have character … he has all these values. He is playing very well. He has to stay focused and not take risks in any situation."
Vicario Surgery Opens Door
Vicario underwent hernia surgery towards the end of March, and that has kept the No. 1 job in Kinsky’s hands. The timing mattered because Tottenham had already been forced to reset the position after the error in the Champions League last 16 first leg against Atlético on 10 March.
Kinsky’s response has gone beyond simply keeping the shirt. Against Wolves, he made a diving save to keep out João Gomes’s stoppage-time free-kick, and Tottenham held on for a 1-0 win. That stop came after the club had already seen him recover enough to stay in contention through De Zerbi’s first four matches.
Tottenham’s Home Form
The selection decision sits against Tottenham’s poor home numbers. They went into the match week with the joint-worst home record in the division with Burnley, and their record at home stood at two wins, five draws and 10 defeats.
That leaves Kinsky at the center of a team still searching for stability in its own stadium while carrying stronger numbers away from it. Spurs had the third-best away record in the division before the weekend, so the pressure at home falls heavily on the goalkeeper De Zerbi has chosen to keep backing.
For Kinsky, the Madrid setback no longer defines the next selection. De Zerbi has treated the rebound as a matter of character and control, and Leeds gets the next test of whether that trust still holds when Tottenham need another result at home.
