Pork King Good Issues Salmonella Snack Recall for 3 Product Sizes
Pork King Good issued a salmonella snack recall on Tuesday for sour cream and onion pork rinds and seasoning products. The company said the recall was voluntary and tied to a potential Salmonella contamination issue in milk powder used in the seasoning blend.
No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the products. Pork King Good said it has identified all affected pork rinds and seasoning bottles made with the impacted ingredient and is working with retail partners to remove them from the field.
Pork King Good Products
The recalled items include 1.75 ounce and 7 ounce bags of Sour Cream & Onion Pork Rinds and 3 ounce bottles of Sour Cream & Onion Seasoning. The products were sold on the company’s website, Amazon, Walmart and Netrition.
Pork King Good said its internal testing has not identified contamination in finished goods currently on the market. It also said it notified the USDA and is working closely with the agency.
California Dairies Recall
The recall started after California Dairies, Inc. issued its own recall involving milk powder ingredients that may have been contaminated with Salmonella. That ingredient was used in Pork King Good’s Sour Cream & Onion seasoning products, and John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. later announced recalls of several snack mixes and trail mixes seasoned in part with the same dry milk powder.
Consumers who bought an affected product should not eat it and may return it to the place of purchase for a refund. They may also contact the company directly at [email protected].
Salmonella Risk
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Salmonella is a group of bacteria that can cause gastrointestinal illness and fever called Salmonellosis. For buyers who still have the recalled pork rinds or seasoning, the practical step is simple: stop using the product and return it for a refund.
