Linfield Vs Dungannon Swifts Ends 0-0 in Windsor Park Play-off

Linfield vs Dungannon Swifts stayed level at Windsor Park, with the winner set to enter the first round of qualifying for the Uefa Conference League. Linfield, who had beaten Dungannon in all four league meetings this season by an aggregate score of 16-2, started on the front foot in a match that offered little football early on.

Windsor Park Start

The opening minutes were physical, and Linfield created the first chance when Adam Frizzell lifted the ball to the back post for Kirk Millar. Millar headed towards goal, but Declan Dunne made a routine stop as Dungannon held firm in front of their goalkeeper.

David Healy made two changes after Linfield’s defeat to Cliftonville 17 days earlier, with Frizzell and Isaac Baird returning to the starting XI. Matt Yates and Chris McKee dropped to the bench. Linfield had not played since 25 April, while Rodney McAree made one change after Dungannon’s victory at Solitude on Saturday night.

McAree And Healy

McAree also adjusted his side, bringing Gael Bigirimana in as captain for Andrew Mitchell, who was among the substitutes. He had hoped his team would benefit from playing more recently than Linfield, and Dungannon reached the final after beating Carrick Rangers and Cliftonville.

Their route into this play-off gave them a second shot at a European place after recovering from Irish Cup final heartbreak, while Linfield arrived with the stronger league record between the sides. Dungannon’s last league win at Windsor Park against Linfield came in January 2024, a marker that sat behind the pressure on the visitors as they tried to break the pattern.

European Spot At Stake

The match decided the Irish Premiership’s final European spot. For the winner, the reward was entry into the first round of qualifying for the Uefa Conference League, and every selection decision at 19:45 BST reflected that stakes-driven setup under the Windsor Park lights.
