David Alexander says Clyde Fc adopts Football Safety App first in Scotland

clyde fc has become the first Scottish club to adopt the Football Safety App, a real-time reporting tool aimed at verbal abuse and unacceptable behaviour. The move gives supporters a direct way to raise issues from the ground, the concourses, pubs or public transport.

Chief executive David Alexander said the club saw the decision as straightforward. “This latest signing was an easy decision to make for us.”

He added: “The software gives supporters a simple and effective way to report incidents connected to our club.” Clyde will introduce the tool at Hamilton Community Stadium, where the club wants to promote a safe, welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere at its ground.

How the app works

Supporters can report bad language, verbal abuse, gender-based abuse, homophobic abuse, safety concerns and maintenance issues in real time. Alexander said the reports go through a 24-hour control room, are verified and escalated, and can be sent directly to clubs or the police.

He also said: “Being able to report bad language or incidents such as verbal abuse, gender-based or homophobic abuse in real time allows us to understand what is happening and respond quickly.” He added: “If there is a safety concern such as someone acting dangerously within the ground or vicinity, or a maintenance issue, this too can be reported.”

Hamilton Community Stadium use

Alexander said: “Reports go directly to our Safety Officer so action can be taken immediately.” The app is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play, and Clyde’s adoption follows Cambridge United becoming the first club in England to use it.

That leaves Clyde with a practical test on matchdays at Hamilton Community Stadium: whether fans use the app to flag abuse and safety problems quickly enough for staff to act before issues spread through the ground.
