Quintayvious Hutchins Charged in Boston College Dorm Case

quintayvious hutchins was arraigned Wednesday morning in Newton District Court after being charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on a family or household member. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and he was released on a promise to return for the next hearing.

Voute Hall On Commonwealth Avenue

The charge stems from an alleged incident on Tuesday at Voute Hall on Commonwealth Avenue in Chestnut Hill. Hutchins, 23, was a Patriots draft pick and a former Boston College edge rusher, which puts the case squarely at the intersection of a criminal complaint and a team’s roster planning.

The Patriots selected him in the seventh round, 247th overall, after five years at Boston College. After the draft on April 25, he told reporters, "If I could be honest, I didn't think I was going to get a call," and added, "So, getting that call from the Patriots was like a dream come true, and hope and faith rising inside of me, knowing that I have another chance to go showcase my talent."

Patriots Response

The Patriots said they were aware of the report involving Hutchins and were gathering additional information. They also said they would not have further comment at this time.

That leaves the immediate football issue pointed at availability and internal review, even as the legal case moves to its next court date. Hutchins had described himself after the draft as a dynamic special teams player, and the team now has to weigh that role against a charge that arrived only weeks after he was selected.

Hutchins grew up in Alabama and is from Needham Heights. For a player picked to help on the edges and on special teams, the next step in his case will matter as much to the Patriots as it does to the court in Newton.
