Coudet tests two changes for River Plate - Gimnasia at Monumental

River Plate - Gimnasia goes into Wednesday’s quarterfinal at the Monumental with Eduardo Coudet weighing two changes to the probable lineup. Juan Fernando Quintero is poised to start, and the coach also tested Germán Pezzella in a team that is trying to reset after the San Lorenzo shootout.

The match is set for May 13, 2026, at 21.30 hours in the Torneo Apertura 2026 quarterfinals. River reached this stage after eliminating San Lorenzo on penalties, and the lineup work from Tuesday’s afternoon training session points to a side that is still being adjusted rather than fully settled.

Coudet’s midfield and back line

Quintero would replace Maxi Meza in the probable formation. Coudet also tested Juan Cruz Meza in midfield, giving River another option in a unit that already includes Aníbal Moreno and Fausto Vera.

At the back, Pezzella was tried in place of Lautaro Rivero. If that switch holds, Lucas Martínez Quarta would likely move into a number 6 role, changing the shape of River’s build-up from the back and the first pass out of defense.

Colidio and Driussi up front

Facundo Colidio and Sebastián Driussi still point toward starting together, even after Colidio’s poor match against San Lorenzo. That keeps River’s attack centered on the same pair while Coudet weighs the changes behind them.

The probable formation also includes Santiago Beltrán, Gonzalo Montiel, Marcos Acuña and the alternatives in midfield and defense that were tested during training. Ian Subiabre and Kendry Páez were not called up for the match, narrowing the bench options as River prepares for a knockout game at home.

Monumental and Premium

The game will be played at the Monumental and shown live on Premium. For River, the immediate task is clear: use the home quarterfinal to move one step closer to the semifinals while settling on the version of the team that Coudet trusts most.
