Brussels readies 15:00 Belgian Cup final travel plan — Union Saint-gilloise Vs Anderlecht
Union Saint-Gilloise vs Anderlecht will bring a heavy transport squeeze to Brussels on Thursday, with the Belgian Cup final set for 15:00 at the Roi Baudouin stadium. STIB has added service on Metro line 6 and set closures, reroutes and station limits around the stadium for the day.
Roi Baudouin Station Limits
Roi-Baudouin station will be entirely shut from 16:30 to 19:00, while Heysel exits 1 and 5 will be closed from 09:30 to 19:00. Metro line 6, which ends at Roi Baudouin, will run with increased service, and Metro line 2 trains will follow the line 6 route to the north-west of the city to double the number of trains serving the area around the stadium.
Brussels authorities warned of traffic disruptions because of the final, and the changes hit the main access points for fans heading to the city rivalry match. Union Saint-Gilloise supporters were told to get off at Houba-Brugmann, while Anderlecht supporters were told to use Heysel.
Bus 83 And Tram 9
Bus line 83 will be rerouted throughout the day and will skip all stops between Esplanade and Tircher, including Palfijn, Améthyste, Roi Baudouin, Heysel and Palais 12. Fans going to the stadium were instructed to get off at Panorama for bus line 83.
Tram line 9’s terminus at Roi Baudouin will not be served until 20:00, and fans were told to get off at Stade, Heysel or Esplanade for access to the stadium. Trams 51 and 93, along with trams 7 and 62, were also listed among the services affected.
Fan Zones Near The Stadium
Union Saint-Gilloise fans were expected to get off at Stuyvenbergh earlier in the day to reach their club-specific fan zone on Place Louis Steens near the Atomium. Anderlecht’s fan zone is near Heysel metro station along Boulevard du Centenaire, and the club will also broadcast the match live to fans at Lotto Park in its home municipality.
Saint-Gilles had previously set up a fan zone on Place Maurice Van Meenem when the club won the Belgian league title in May of last year, but this time the municipality decided against installing a big screen there for the final. For anyone heading toward Roi Baudouin, the practical move is simple: use the station and stop changes already laid out, or expect to be caught in the closed sections around the stadium.
